New Delhi, Mar 04: The monsoon session of Parliament is likely to sit for an additional one week in view of the proposed changes in the ongoing Budget session due to the April/May assembly polls in four states and Pondicherry.

The government would seek to have a six-week monsoon session, instead of five weeks, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters today.

The Budget session, which was to have a recess from March 18, was now proposed to have its sittings till March 22. Under the proposal, both Houses would have sittings on Saturdays as well. After the recess, Parliament would resume its session from May 10 and the two Houses would adjourn sine die on May 23.

Because of the changes, the Budget session would have only 34 working days, instead of 38, Mr Dasmunsi said.

The pending Bills and the first part of the Budget business were planned to be completed before the recess, he said.
