Fact finding team from Manipur to visit Mizoram
Imphal, Mar 4: A five-member fact finding team led by Aram Pamei, president of Rongmei Association, today left here for Mizoram to see the conditions of the people, displaced due to intense fighting between militants and Army at Manipur.
Human rights activists and student leaders were part of the team.
They will visit Aizawl and Sakawardai in Mizoram and later come back to Manipur to visit Parbung and Tipaimukh.
Earlier, some MLAs of Manipur had also visited Mizoram to see the conditions of the refugees who fled Manipur and assured to meet their expenses.
A large number of people from Churachandpur district had fled to neighbouring Mizoram after United National Liberation Front (UNLF) cadres and the army were locked in a gun battle in January last.
Army sources said many people had come back to Manipur after the army took over the area.
For almost a decade the entire Parbung, Thanlon and Tipaimukh areas of Manipur were controlled by the militants.
