CPI MLA gets bail, receives warm reception by party activists
Berhampur, Mar 4(UNI) CPI MLA N Narayan Reddy, sentenced to seven years imprisonment in a 14-year old assault case, was granted bail yesterday by District Judge Chitta Ranjan Das.
Mr Reddy and three others were convicted by the Assistant Sessions Judge of Chhatrapur on February 28 last for seriously assaulting a School Head Master in 1992.
The CPI MLA, who was present in the court, had been sent to Berhampur Circle jail soon after his bail application was rejected by the court.
Mr Reddy who pleaded innocence in the case, had moved the bail application before the District Sessions Judge court on March 1 last.
The District sessions judge who heard the hearing had reserved his judgment and finally ordered the release of the CPI MLA from the Berhampur Circle Jail on bail with a surity bond of Rs 20,000.
Mr Reddy was accorded a warm welcome by a large group of his supporters including CPI members who took out a procession from the Berhampur Central Jail gate.The CPI MLA dubbed the framing of the charges against him as politically motivated and hoped that he would get justice.
Three others also convicted in the case along with Mr.Reddy were also granted bail by the court.
