BJP to finalise candidates by March 11
Guwahati, Mar 4 (UNI) State BJP President Indramoni Bora today said it would come out with its list of candidates for the coming Assembly election in Asom by next week.
Addressing mediapersons, he said the state executive and the election committee held a meeting here yesterday and finalised all its committees for the forthcoming election.
The Election Commission had announced a two-phase Assembly election for Asom to be held on April 3 and 10.
Mr Bora said the list would be prepared after the receipt of assessment reports from the election committee, which will be camping in the district headquarters from March 5 to 7 to assess the prospect of BJP candidates in the constituencies in each district.
''The committee would submit its report on March 8. The list would be finalised at New Delhi on March 10,'' Mr Bora said.
''The state committee does not finalise the list. It is announced by the central committee as a practice of the BJP,'' the state president said.
Mr Bora further informed that the party would hold public meetings in each constituency contested by party candidates in presence of at least one central leader.
He, however, refused to indicate how many seats the BJP would contest, saying everything depends upon the assessment of the election committee members and the central leadership.
The BJP is likely to fight the election in Asom alone while all the other parties, including the ruling Congress, were trying to strike some sort of alliance.
