People living in and around Siddapur and Nelly Hudikeri had a tough time as the pachyderm used to trumphet in pain day in and day out and also used to destroy their plantations. The jumbo's wounds got worsened and infected every passing day as no medical assistance was provided to it.
However, the forest officials said they were helpless in this situation as the Centre's permission was required for administering tranquilisers to the pachyderm and providing treatment.
A few days ago, photo journalists had captured pictures of the pachyderm spending a whole day in muddy water to relieve itself from pain.
