TN Doctor chosen for B C Roy award

Chennai, Mar 3 (UNI) Laproscopic surgeon Dr C Palanivelu of the Coimbatore-based Gem Hospitals has been chosen for the prestigious Dr B C Roy National Award for the year 2005.

Talking to reporters here today, Dr Palanivelu said he was chosen for the award in the category of 'Development of Specialities'' by the Medical Council of India in recognition of his contirbution made in Minimal Access laproscopic surgery in India.

He was among the pioneering surgeons to introduce the ''Key hole concept of Minimal Access Laproscopic surgery'' in India and was also instrumental in the development of Advanced Laproscopic surgery in the country.

He said his vision was to provide training opportunities to all the laproscopic surgeons in India by 2010 and favoured inclusion of laproscopy in the medical curriculum.
