Stop fish imports from ASEAN countries: MP

New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) Dr K S Manoj (CPM) today demanded in the Lok Sabha that the government stop importing fish from Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries to protect the interests of Indian fishermen.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Dr Manoj said ASEAN countries exported the same varieties of fish which were available to Indian fishermen and as such were competitors of India in the international market.

The move to import fish from ASEAN would affect the livelihood of 11 million fishermen in India, he contended.
