Second phase village committee election in Tripura peaceful

Agartala, Mar 3(UNI) The second phase of village committee election in Tripura passed off peacefully today.

Official sources said here that over 80 per cent of the voters cast ballots in the second phase to elect 1563 candidates in Dhalai and South districts.

The poll results will be announced on March 6.

Security measures were tightened in view of today's polling. An additional 40 companies of para-military forces had been deployed in addition to the existing state and para-military forces to foil any attempt by the militants, who had been operating from their hideouts in Bangladesh, to disrupt the poll.

The Border Security Force had also sealed the border with Bangladesh for the election. Helicopters were pressed into service for air surveillance on the movements of the militants.
