Labour Dept ensures compensation to families of accident victims
Bangalore, Mar 3 (UNI) The families of five labourers who lost their lives in an accident at a construction site on Febraury 21 last, were paid a compensation of Rs 2.6 lakh each by the construction company, due to the intervention of the Karnataka Labour Department.
The labourers were killed when a supporting wall collapsed on them when they were engaged in work at the site near Marathhalli on the outskirts of the city, according to official sources.
Acting swiftly, Labour Department officials had immediately conducted an inquiry into the incident and found that safety measures were not in place at the construction site where a residential complex was being built by the company, Rohan Builders.
As directed by the officials, the Builders deposited Rs 12,78,450 with the Department and the same was equally distributed among the families of the victims as compensation, the sources added.
