Karunanidhi hails Murali's feat of 1000 wickets

Chennai, Mar 3 (UNI) Ace Sri Lankan offie Muttiah Muralitharan today received accolades from DMK President M Karunanidhi for becoming the first bowler to bag 1000 wickets in Test and one-day cricket.

In a statement here, Mr Karunanidhi said Muralitharan, who had bagged 995 wickets -- 581 in Tests and 411 in ODIs -- prior to the first Test against Bangladesh at Chittagong, bagged three wickets in the first innings and six more in the second to achieve a unique feat in his 100th Test match.

Mr Karunanidhi also noted that Muralitharan had become the 36th player in the annals of cricket to play 100 Tests.
