Experts find an answer to 'Neelgai' menace on standing crops

Allahabad, Mar 3 (UNI) Agricultural scientists from Allahabad and Pratapgarh have developed a bio-product, which they claim can put to an end the menace of ''Neelgai'' on standing crops.

Speaking about the product ''Nilgiri-g'', the head of the team of agro-scientists from Allahabad Agricultural Institute and Raj Dinesh Singh Agricultural Science Centre, Pratapgarh, A D Shukla said today, ''The dusting of the bio-product in fields will prevent the Neelgai's from grazing and destroying the standing crops.'' The Neelagais entering and consuming crop in fields dusted with the bio-product, will develop a sour teeth. This will ensure that the wild animals never return to the same agricultural field again, he added.

Dr Shukla, however, made it clear, that the new product will not harm the Neelgai in any way. He also said that the bio-product dusting will not harm the yield or quality of the standing crop.

He said that its development became essential keeping in mind the Neelgai's, which about two decades back were nota threat to farmer fortunes, but owing to the dwindling forests and subsequent loss of fodder have taken to villages, in search of food.

The other members of the team that developed the bio-product are Dr S S Singh, Dr Meghna, Dr Pramilla Gupta, Dr Samreen, Rajesh Shukla and Asjit Shukla.
