Doordarshan earns Rs 585 crore from serials
New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) Doordarshan has earned a revenue of Rs 585.74 crore during 2005-06 till January 31 as compared to Rs 665.27 crore in 2004-05.
The revenue of the public service broadcaster in 2003-04 was Rs 530.23 crore.
The information was given by Minister of Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi in the Lok Sabha.
Doordarshan has so far installed 8,465 Direct-To-Home (DTH) units free of cost for demonstration purpose in the villages of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, North-East region, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal, he said.
The government has permitted Doordarshan to raise the number of TV channels in its DTH bouquet from 33 to 50 thereby augmenting the base of more number of free-to-air private TV channels.
Prasar Bharati is examining the technical and commercial feasibility of expansion of DTH platform to cover 100 channels.
