Don't blame judges for Delhi demolitions: Law Minister
New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) Beseiged with mounting criticism over its order to MCD to demolish illegal constructions in the capital, the court today found a strong supporter in Law Minister Hansraj Bhardwaj, when he said the judiciary has to act when people approach it with some grievance.
Government agencies like MCD and DDA should come out with clear policies and rules so that recourse to courts is avoided, the minister said replying to the discussion on the Contempt of Court (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha today.
When the government leaves it to courts, they have to act, and therefore the judge cannot be balmed for passing the order, Mr Bhardwaj said.
The courts are working with insufficient infrastructure and are overburdened but they cannot shirk their constitutional responsibility to redress public grievances when approached, he said.
