Development of exotic fish to boost production: Minister

Jammu, Mar 3 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Abdul Aziz Zargar today informed the Legislative Assembly the government intends to give a considerable fillip to the development of exotic fish in the rivers and streams of the state.

Replying to a question, the Minister said various steps have been taken in this direction and projects worth Rs. 2.50 crore formulated to give impetus to the rearing of fish.

He further said an amount of Rs. 11.63 lakh is being spent on various schemes in Doda under district plan during the current year and Rs. 7.30 lakh under PM's reconstruction plan for development of fisheries.

Mr Zargar said the fisheries department has a comprehensive programme to increase fish production and a number of farms have been set up on Marwah, Sukdi, Kishtwar streams to give a boost to fish production. Unemployed youth are being given incentives to take up fish farming as a commercial activity, he added.
