DDA developing sites for hotel accommodation for Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has taken up development of hotel sites in different parts of Delhi to meet the requirement of additional hotel accommodation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The DDA has already developed 22 plots for construction of hotels in Delhi, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken told Parliament.

The DDA proposes to offer these plots for development through auction in which private individuals or companies can participate, the minister said in reply to a written question.

However, the National Capital Region Planning Board has reported that there is no specific proposal for development of additional hotel sites for the purpose in Haryana, UP and Rajasthan.

The Minister said the Delhi government has prepared an action plan for creation of various infrastructure facilities such as roads, water supply, sewer disposal, transport, health and power for the Commonwealth Games and has sought additional funds of Rs 1340 crore.

X X X X Unauthorised constructions: The Centre has set up a committee, comprising experts and elected representatives, under the chairmanship of former Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna to assess the magnitude of the problem and issues involved in the matter of unauthorised constructions and misuse of premises in various parts of Delhi and to suggest a comprehensive strategy to deal with it, Mr Maken said in reply to another question.

Among the terms of reference of the committee are to make an assessment about the magnitude of the problem of unauthorised constructions and misuse of premises, to assess various types of violations and put them in broad categories, identify the underlying causes leading to these violations and suggest a feasible strategy of dealing with various issues involved in the matter, recommend policy guidelines and development control norms for regulating construction activities in Lal Dora and extended Lal Dora areas and recommend measures to prevent recurrence of such violations in the future.

The committee has been asked to submit its recommendations within a period of three months.

X X X X Transfer of markets: The Centre has decided to transfer all the markets, except Rajiv Chowk/Indira Chowk and the INA Market complex) at present under the Land and Development Office, the Central Public works Department and the Directorate of Estates to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the New Delhi Municipal Council , the Minister said in reply to another question.

X X X X Green Delhi: The Centre has taken several measures to make Delhi greener and environment friendly, the Minister said.

The measures include undertaking of plantation drives by various agencies in areas under their jurisdiction, in accordance with the Green Delhi Action Plan, distributing seedlings to public free of cost to encourage plantation on private lands, involving the local public, citizens forums, residence welfare associations and schools in tree plantation drives MORE UNI AR LS BS1554
