Cabinet panel recommends extension of Budget session
New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) In view of the Assembly elections in five States from April 3 to May 8, the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs today recommended extension of the first phase of the Budget Session upto March 22, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said.
According to the original schedule, the Houses were to go into recess from March 17 to April 2. The second phase was to resume from April 3 and conclude on April 28.
Mr Dasmunsi told reporters that the Cabinet Committee had recommended that the second phase of the Budget Session should be held from May 10 to May 23.
Holding sittings of both the Houses on Saturdays on March 11 and 18 and giving a break of two days for Holi festival on March 15 and 16 had also been recommended by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, he added.
According to the changed schdule recommended by the Cabinet Committee, the Finance Bill and the Budget proposals would be passed by March 22, the Minister said.
The final decision about the new schedule for the Budget Session would be taken by the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman on Monday, Mr Dasmunsi added.
