Belgaum issue: Kannada flag hoisted on taluk office

Belgaum, Mar 3 (UNI) Activists of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike took out a protest march, protesting against Belgaum Taluk Panchayat attempting to pass a resolution, demanding the merger of Marathi-speaking areas of the State with Maharashtra, and hoisted the 'Kannada Flag' on the taluk office building here today.

Anticipating the protestors to proceed to the city municipal corporation office, which had passed such a resolution, police immediately made elaborate bandobust arrangements there.

Later, addressing a press conference, Kannada Rakshana Vedike State President Praveen Shetty urged the State Government to extern the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti Legislator from Karnataka for provoking the elected representatives to pass such resolutions.

He said the activists would hoist the flag on other offices indulging in such activities.
