UP zonal incharges told to streamline party in state
New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) AICC general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Ashok Gehlot today met the eight newly-appointed zonal in-charges of the state to consider ways to galvanise the party there.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Uttar Pradesh PCC President Salman Khurshid, Mr Gehlot called upon the zonal in-charges to get down to work to revitalise the party organisation in the state.
The congress leaders, including the zonal in-charges, will be meeting party president Sonia Gandhi at her residence here tomorrow.
Today's meeting and the one to be held tomorrow assume significance in view of the political developments taking place in Uttar Pradesh following a High Court verdict setting aside the defection and merger of 40 BSP MLAs with the Samajwadi Party.
In a 2-1 verdict, the High Court had accepted the BSP petition, but refused to disqualify the BSP MLAs and remanded the case to the Assembly Speaker to decide on their disqualification.
