Left parties stage demonstrations opposing Bush visit
Hyderabad, Mar 2 (UNI) Several Muslim organisations and Left parties staged protest demonstrations throughout Andhra Pradesh opposing US President George W Bush's visit to the city tomorrow.
Members of the city unit Communist Party of India (CPI) burnt Mr Bush in effigy near Malakpet railway bridge. CPI state secretariat member Azeez Pasha and secretary V Ram Narasimha Rao also participated in the protest demonstration.
Revolutionary and progressive writers, cartoonists and artistes staged demonstration near Sundarayya Park. Cartoons of Mr Bush were made showing him as a tyrant and a terrorist. Noted artistes Mohan, poet K Siva Reddy and writer T Ravi also participated in the demonstration.
Members of SFI and DYFI also organised a dharna. They also raised slogans against the visiting American President and carried banners and posters depicting Mr Bush as a terrorist.
In Rajahmundry, activists of the CPI burnt Mr Bush in effigy and raised slogans against him. Earlier, the party took out a procession from their office. The procession was led by CPI town secretary K Appa Rao.
Protest rallies and burning of effigies were also organised in Nizamabad, Srikalulam, Prakasham and Kurnool districts of the state.
