HC grants anticipatory bail to Janakiraman, Son
Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) The Madras High Court today granted anticipatory bail to R V Janakiraman, MLA and former Chief Minister of Pondicherry and his son Chandreshkumar, who apprehended arrest in connection with a case registered against them under various provisions of IPC, including unlawful assembly and preventing public servant from discharging his official duty.
Justice K N Basha granted anticipatory bail to Janakiraman and Chandreshkumar on a petition filed by them.
According to the D Nagar Police in Pondicherry on February 28, 2006, Janakiraman, his son and 50 DMK activists gathered near the office of the Electoral Registration Office-IV. They picked up a quarrel with the officials stating that the election machinery has failed to consider the claims for inclusion of persons who had given applications during revision and prevented them from performing their official duty. They also took away the register of complaints and other documents. The documents were, however, returned in the afternoon. Hence a case for offences under section 143, 379, 353 read with 149 of IPC were registered against them.
