Eight get 7-yrs' RI in a series of dacoities

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 2 (UNI) A sessions court today sentenced eight persons to seven- year rigorous imprisonment (RI) and acquitted five others in the case of seven dacoities in the distrct in December 2004.

Besides RI, they were also fined Rs 1,000 each, failing which they will have to serve an additional six months in jail.

According to prosecution, a series of dacoities were carried out here on December eight and nine, 2004, following which a case was registered against 14 accused.

After hearing both the parties, Second Ad-Hoc Additional Sessions Judge P D Ambekar pronounced eight as guilty in the crime and acquitted five others. One of the accused, however, had died during a scuffle with his own collegues while executing the dacoity on December eight, 2004.
