Demand to raise Anderson extradition issue before Bush

Bhopal, Mar 2 (UNI) The Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan has demanded that the issue of the then Union Carbide Corporation chairman and prime accused Warren Anderson's extradition be raised during the ongoing India tour of US President George W Bush.

The organisation's Convenor Abdul Jabbar and his deputy N D Jayaprakash said in a statement here today that they wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard.

''On the intervening night of December 2-3, 1984, 20,000 persons died in the world's worst industrial disaster while 5.5 lakh were affected,'' Mr Jabbar said.

In 1992, the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court declared Mr Anderson as an absconder in the criminal case. On March 27 that year, an NBW was also issued and the Centre urged to take the initiative for the extradition.
