BJP postpones Guwahati executive meet

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The BJP today postponed its National Executive meeting scheduled for March 26, 27 and 28 in Guwahati in view of the ensuing Assembly elections in four states and Pondicherry.

The decision was taken at the meeting of general secretaries and senior party leaders, chaired by party President Rajnath Singh here.

The party, meanwhile, has convened its Central Election Committee meeting on March 10 to finalise candidates for the Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Pondicherry.

The party has also decided to nominate Mr H Badababu Singh as president of its Manipur unit.

Briefing newspersons, BJP general secretary and spokesman Arun Jaitley said the National Executive meeting would now be held in May after completion of the elections on May 8. The dates and venue would be announced later.

He said today's meeting which mainly discussed organisational matters, felt that the executive meet should be postponed since the first phase of election was beginning on April 3 with polling in Assam and the process of selection of candidates and filing of nominations had to be completed by the third week of March.

Besides, the party would also be finalising nominees for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha, he said.
