Army XI overcomes Vasco Sports Club

Bangalore, Mar 2 (UNI) Army XI overcame stiff resistance to defeat Vasco Sports Club, Goa, 1-0 in the second division National Footbal League match (Group A), held here today.

Though Vasco had an upper hand in the first half, it failed to utilise more than two chances, which came its way. Both the teams drew a blank at half time.

It was in the second half that the Army lads geared up and striker Vijaya Thapa netted the lone goal of the match in the 66th minute.

While Army XI, which had conceded defeat to Indian Bank in its first encounter of the league, registered its first victory, Vasco failed to maintain its tempo after defeating Assam Rifle in its first match.
