Show cause notice to be issued to Belgaum TP
Bangalore, Mar 1 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today informed the Legislative Council that the Government would issue a show cause notice to the Belgaum Taluk Panchayat for exceeding its jurisdiction and acting against the State's interest by attempting to pass a resolution favouring the merger of Marathi- speaking areas of the State with neighbouring Maharashtra.
In his reply to the discussion under Rule 68 moved by Leader of the Opposition H K Patil, he said some members of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti had attempted to adopt the resolution at its meeting held on February 27. However, the resolution was not recorded as the officials present did not allow them to adopt it, holding it illegal.
Mr Kumaraswamy said he would be visiting Belgaum for two days from March 25 to have a first hand knowledge of the problems being faced by the people of the area.
He added he would hold a meeting of literateurs soon to decide on the steps to save Kannada and protect the interests of people living in the border areas.
