Prabhakar Paleri new Director General of Coast Guard
Visakhapatnam, Mar 1: Prabhakaran Paleri has taken over as new Director General of Indian Coast Guard.
Dr Paleri had been with Coast Guard since its formative years.
The important assignments held by him before taken over as the DG yesterday included the Deputy Director General, Regional Commander Coast Guard Region (West), Commander Coast Guard District (Kerala and Lakshdweep) and West Bengal besides commanding the first offshore vessel ICGS Samar and also the training ship ICGS Varuna.
He had been the first recipient of Tatrakshak medal, a coast guard release said here today.
A mechanical engineer by education Dr Paleri joined Indian Navy in 1969 in the executive branch. He also served in Custom Marine Organisation before joining Coast Guard in 1981. He obtained doctoral degree from University of Madras for his thesis ''Changing Concept of National Security and A Maritime Model for India,'' the release added
