Police bandobust for all places of worship in Old City

Hyderabad, Mar 1 (UNI) The police in the Old City will be providing security to all the places of worship in south zone, in view of US President George W Bush's visit to the city on March 3.

Several Muslim organisations, including All India Majlis-e-Ittehedul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) have called for a bandh on that day. They are also planning to take out rallies opposing the visit of Mr Bush. Since, March 3 was falling on a Friday, the police are taking the security issue very seriously.

In view of the recent rally in protest against the publication of the Prophet's cartoon that turned violent near Charminar, the police were taking utmost care.

Elaborate arrangements were being made under the supervision of South Zone Deputy-Commissioner of Police Sandeep Shandilya. Already, the DCP had convened a meeting of all the Assistant-Commissioners of Police (ACPs) of Mirchowk, Charminar, Santoshnagar and Falaknuma areas and reviewed the situation, according to police.

Besides providing 'bandobust' at all the important places of worship in Old City, additional police force was also being called to be in place on March 3. The police have already set up check points at many places in sensitive areas of South Zone with people were being frisked during night time.

There are reports that the police were also organising meetings with Maitri and Peace Committees in South Zone.
