New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Government of National Capital Territory (NCT) for steps to be taken to improve the health of animals in different 'Gaushalas' here.

Issuing the notice, a division bench comprising Justices Vijender Jain and S N Aggarwal asked the authority concerned to file their reply on March 8, the next date of hearing.

The petitioner, Vikas Jain argued that, there were 3000 cow-sheds, in Delhi. The NGOs who were running these cow-sheds, however, stated that due to lack of funds they were not in a position to ensure proper functioning of them.

The court today had intervened in this matter and directed MCD to release the amount so that the funds could not lapse within two weeks of this financial year.

The court also ordered the MCD and Animal Husbandry Department of Govt of NCT to provide Rs 20 and Rs 5 per day for each cattle for food and maintenance respctively to improve the health of the cattle kept in 'Gaushalas'.
