Gandhinagar, Mar 1 (UNI) The Gujarat Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes with agitated Congress members voicing loud protests over police failure to nab a sex maniac who had kidnapped a minor girl in Vatva locality of the city, spreading panic among the residents of the area.

The trouble started when Home Minister Amit Shah while replying to the calling attention motion debate said, ''No such incident had taken place.'' The Congressmen shouted allegations that the Minister was trying to protect the criminal.

Leader of the Opposition Arjun Modhvadia too alleged that Mr Shah was trying to evade a serious issue.

However, Mr Shah intervened and said he had meant there was no record of the crime at the Vatva police station as quick action by the police with cooperation of the residents had led to recovery of the kidnapped girl within a few hours.

He also assured the House that the Crime Branch and the Vatva police were on the job to nab the criminal.
