Akshardham: SC stays Delhi HC order to shift petrol pump

New Delhi, Mar 1: The Supreme Court today stayed till further orders the operation of the Delhi High Court order directing the DDA to shift the controversial petrol pump near the Akshardham Temple in East Delhi.

A bench comprising Mrs.Justice Ruma Pal and Mr Justice Dalveer Bhandari passed the stay order when senior counsel Mukul Rohatagi brought up the matter before the court during mentioning and informed the court that the petrol pump owner has filed an SLP against the high court order and if interim stay was declined then the appeal may itself become infructous.

The High Court had ordered the closure of the petrol pump on the grounds that it was situated on the encroached land and was a major source of traffic snarls in the area as even the course of the road has been changed by the authorities due to political and financial clout of its owner Gyan Gupta.

A bench comprising Mr Justice Vijender Jain and Ms Justice Rekha Sharma of Delhi high court had directed the shifting and closure of the petrol pump as it was situated on the temple setu and was a major hurdle in smooth flow of traffic.
