40000 villages to be electrified during 2006-07

New Delhi, Feb 28: Presenting the Budget proposals for the year 2006-07, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, said under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, 40000 more villages will be electrified during the fiscal year while 10000 villages will be electrified in the current year (2005-06).

Mr Chidambaram said all States have signed memoranda of understanding (MoUS) to implement the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana.

The key to success of this programme is the engagement of franchisees and proper commercial and contractual arrangements for distribution, billing and collection, he said.
