BJP accuses UPA govt, of failing to check naxalism
Jaunpur, Feb 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today accused the UPA government at the centre of failing to check the surge in naxalite violence in the country.
Interacting with mediapersons here former union minister of state for home affairs and senior BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand said that at the time the NDA government lost power at centre a total of 55 districts in eight states were affected with the activities of the naxal extremists.
Mr Chinmayanand, however, claimed that since the UPA government came to power, the number of naxal affected districts has shot up to 215 spread in 13 states.
The former minister alleged the Vajpayee government's successful effort of putting a check on infiltration in the North East, had been undone by the UPA regime. The continued infiltration of anti-national elements had made the situation explosive in the North East, he added.
He also charged the Congress of aligning with the anti-national outfits in the North Eastern states to win elections and added that until the Sonia Gandhi led party shelved this practice, there was no chance of peace and tranquility returning to the region.
