Twin bandhs affect life in Manipur
Imphal, Feb 27 (UNI) Two bandhs called today to protest separate police actions affected life in Manipur.
A large number of organisations called a general strike from February 26 to February 27 midnight to protest the arrest of a girl for having an affair with a militant.
The girl identified as Naobi was apprehended by Thoubal police for allegedly having an affair with Vikas, a cadre of People's Liberation Army(PLA), who was involved in the killing of four police personnel at Thoubal bazar earlier.
The joint action committee also called a strike to protest the alleged killing of Md Abdul by Imphal west police at Paona bazar earlier.
All educational and business establishments were closed in view of the strike. All inter state bus services were also cancelled.
Police reported cases of burning of tyres on the main roads.
The strike supporters used catapults to hit anybody who were seen moving around.
Security was tightened in view of the strike.
