Asia's biggest development block to be trifurcated

Pilibhit, Feb 27: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a proposal to trifurcate Puranpur -- Asia's biggest development block located in this district.

Official sources said here today that the state government recently gave its nod to the break up of Puranpur block into two more blocks, Mathotanda and Gadwakhera.

At present, 500 revenue villages in Puranpur send representatives to 156 gram panchayats and 226 kshetra panchayats, besides electing over 2,000 gram sabha members, the sources added.
