Anti-Naxal movement leader shot dead

Jagdalpur, Bastar, Feb 27: Anti-Naxalite movement leader Mohan Mandavi was shot dead while a Nagaland Police jawan succumbed to injuries yesterday in the naxalite affected Bastar region in Chhattisgarh, police said today.

Mandavi, who was returning home after participating in the Shivratri celebration, was shot at by Naxalites at Tular village in Dantewada district. He was immediately taken to Barsur hospital, where he could not be given treatment as the doctor was reportedly in an inebriated condition.

The seriously injured Jan Jagaran Abhiyan leader was then taken to Dantewada hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, the police said.

Chief Medical Officer Gambhir Singh Thakur suspended Barsur Primary Health Centre doctor R Komre for negligence.

In an encounter between Naxalites and Nagaland Police jawans in Bastar district's Gedli village yesterday, two jawans were seriously injured. A jawan succumbed to injuries at Raipur medical the college hospital today, while another was being treated there, police added.
