Written by: Staff

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Feb 26 (UNI) Police fired into the air to quell a violent mob which surrounded them at Vejandla village last night.

According to police, the villagers attacked a police party when they arrested five dancers performing dance in an obsense manner on the eve of shivarathri festival. To quell the attackers, police fired in the air.

Protesting against the arrest the villagers squatted on the highway to prevent the police van carrying the dancers.

The rasta roko continued for three hours. As the situation deteriorated, police were forced to release the dancers, following which the villagers called off the rasta roko programme.
