Plea to declare 'Thirukkural' national literature

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) The Thalainagar Tamil Sangam today appealed to leaders of political parties in Tamil Nadu to exert pressure on the Union Government to declare ''Thirukkural'' as national literature.

In a statement here today, Sangam President R Sethu and its Treasurer P Eraielihzan also wanted the leaders to take efforts to make Tamil an official langugage.

Recalling the Centre's declaration of Tamil as a classical language, they wanted the language and the Tamils to benefit from it. The Sangam functionaries urged the Tamil Nadu Government to make Tamil the medium of instruction from Kindergarden to higher studies in the state.
