Pakistan TCP buys 50,000 T of white sugar at $478/T
KARACHI, Feb 26: State-run Trading Corp. of Pakistan (TCP) said it had purchased 50,000 tonnes of white sugar at 8 a tonne C&F Karachi.
TCP chairman Mohammad Asif Zaman Ansari said the corporation had bought the sugar from a private Indian sugar refinery.
''It is the best price we can get ... we even successfully bargained a dollar per tonne discount,'' Ansari told Reuters.
It is the first purchase by the government in more than five years from India and the supplier will complete shipments within the six weeks.
The India-specific tender was issued on February 6 and TCP received three bids.
