Over 100 Shiv Sainiks held in Varanasi

Varanasi, Feb 26 (UNI) More than 100 Shiv Sainiks, attempting to perform 'Jalabhishek' at Shringar Gauri shrine located at the disputed Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanwapi complex, were today arrested from the Mehmoorganj area of the holy city.

Police said here that more than 100 Shiv Sainiks, en route to the Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanwapi complex, were arrested from the Mehmoorganj area under the Bhelupur police circle today.

Meanwhile, security arrangements have been made in the city to prevent any untoward incident on the festival of Mahashivaratri today.

Police Superintedent (City) Anant Dev told UNI here today that the entire city has been divided into 28 sectors for the purpose of security. Security personnel led by 13 companies of PAC, two companies of RAF will man the security, Mr Dev said, adding that seven ASPs, 22 DSPs, ten station officers, 158 sub-inspectors and 900 police constables will also be on duty.

The Bomb Disposal Squad and fire brigade personnel have also been put on high alert, he added.
