Opening of Badrinath and Kedarnath 'Kapats'coincides

Dehra Dun, Feb 26 (UNI) For the first time in many years, the opening date and time of Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham have coincided, both being scheduled at 0400 hrs on May 4 .

'' Normally, the doors of Kedarnath open three or four days after the opening of Badrinath doors,'' said president of Badrinath Kedarnath Mandir Committee Anusuyya Prasad Maikhuri today, adding this is for the first time in many years the coincidence has taken place.

Informing about the opening date of Kedarnath, he said the time was decided in a committee meeting held at Omkareshwar Temple Ukhimath on the auspicious occasion of Shivaratri today, in the presence of mandir pujaris, local people and their representatives.

The opening date of Badrinath Dham 'kapat' was declared earlier on the occasion of 'Basant Panchjami'. Mr Maikhuri further informed that 'Kedarnath doli' would reach Guptakashi from Ukhimath Omkareshwar temple on April 30 and reach Phata on May 1. On May 2, the doli would reach Gaurikund and in the evening of May 3 it would make it to Kedarnath, wherein on the next day ( May 4) the 'Kapat' would be open at 0400 hrs for the visitors.
