Officials not to take any chances in Uchchal

Surat, Feb 26 (UNI) State Deputy Director of Communicable Diseases S J Gandhi today told UNI that the task force is all vigilant in Uchhal Taluk in Surat where bird flu cases in poultry farms have been reported.

''We are all vigilant and we do not want to take any chances,'' Mr Gandhi said. Even though some bird samples tested positive Avian Flu, no human cases were reported and a strong surveillance is going on in the villages to lacte suspected cases, he said.

''We have not received any cases with classical bird flu symptoms,'' Mr Gandhi added.

''However we are closely observing people with even broad symptoms and especially those who had a history of working in the farms,'' he mentioned.

According to him 18 such cases are referred to Vyara referal hospital and out of them 10 are kept indoor. He said that an isolation ward is reserved in Vyara Hospital with specialist doctors and necessary equipments.
