ROME, Feb 25: Livorno's bid for a place in next season's UEFA Cup stuttered in a 1-1 draw with Reggina today.

The result left Livorno sixth in Serie A, the final UEFA Cup berth, with 44 points, 23 behind leaders Juventus, who host Lecce on Sunday. Reggina lie 13th on 28 points.

Livorno dominated the early stages but had to wait until the first minute of the second half before Stefano Morrone put them ahead with a dipping 25-metre drive.

Instead of crumbling, however, Reggina pressed forward, their pressure paying off in the 63rd minute when a wayward defensive clearance fell to Giandomenico Mesto on the right, who crossed for striker Francesco Cozza to head in at the near post.

Mesto missed a glaring chance to win the match for Reggina in the final minute when he went through one-on-one against keeper Marco Amelia, only to blast the ball way over the bar from close range.

In a later match, fifth-placed Fiorentina (50 points) were away to Parma (kickoff 1930 GMT).
