Raigunj, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad inaugurated a newly constructed broad gauge track from Barsoi Junction to Radhikapur in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal today.

Mr Prasad inaugurated the 53.46 km track converted at a cost of Rs 104 crore by flagging off a special passenger train to Radhikapur. Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said Radhikapur was the most important point for exim trade with Bangladesh, hence availability of the new track would give a new fillip to the under-developed area and benefit local people.

Mr Prasad during his speech assured the local public that their demand for a couple of new trains to Howrah and New Delhi would be considered.

The state Civil Defence Minister Srikumar Mukherjee also attended the function held at Raigunj station this morning.
