New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The investigating officer in the controversial Jessica Lal murder case, Surendra Sharma, has been transferred from the post of Station House Officer of Hauz Khas police station to the security wing of Delhi Police.

The transfer orders of Sharma, whose probe in the high-profile case came in for criticism following the acquittal of all the nine accused in the case by the trial court earlier this week, were issued last night, police sources said.

All nine accused in the murder case were acquitted by the trial court after the witness had turned hostile.

The transfer of the officer to the security wing is being seen as fallout of the verdict in the Jessica case.

In fact, the Delhi High Court on Friday, taking suo motu cognisance of newspaper reports on the acquittal of all accused in the Jessica Lal Murder case, issued a notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner to file a reply stating reasons.

A division bench of Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma asked Delhi Police Commissioner to file a reply to the newspaper reports that the police failed to submit concrete evidence before the trial court during the proceedings of the Jessica Lal murder case.
