Freedom fighter prays for CBI probe into his son's death
Sambalpur, Feb 26 (UNI) A veteran freedom fighter has urged the President of India to order a CBI probe into the death of his son in a police firing.
Freedom fighter Shashi Bhusan Pradhan's son Harekrushna Pradhan, Chairman of the Rairkhol Block was killed in police firing on February 15 while accompanying a police team to the Charmal forest to retrieve the body of a villager killed by a wild bear.
Police claimed they were trying to save him from the wild bear, when the bullet hit him accidentally causing death. His family members, however allege that Harekrushna was killed intentionally by the police.
Although the Orissa government had ordered an administrative inquiry into the incident by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner and suspended Charmal police officer in charge along with three other constables, Octogenarian Shasi Bhusan said he would be satisfied only with a CBI inquiry.
The first MLA of Rairakhol said he was compelled to call on the President, urging him to order a CBI probe, as the state government had turned down his proposal.
