Anti-Bush protest by Gas Tragedy victims
Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) The victims of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy have staged a demonstration here against the proposed India visit of US President George W Bush, under the banner of the Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan demanding that the then Union Carbide chairman Warren Anderson be extradited.
Speaking on the occasion yesterday, the organisation's Abdul Jabbar said, ''In the criminal case being argued in a local court, Mr Anderson has been proclaimed an absconder.'' Mr Bush, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Mr Anderson were burnt in effigy, during the demonstration.
On the intervening night of December 2-3, 1984, methyl isocyanate leaked out of the Union Carbide plant and killed thousands in their sleep while hundreds still suffer the deleterious affect of inhaling the deadly vapours.
