Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu Feb 26 (UNI) The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, T R Baalu said the Centre has planned 276 new projects in the Port and Shipping sectors.
Talking to newspersons here he yesterday said the martime policy will be sent to the Cabinet for approval after the Union budget.
Referring to Tuticorin Port, he said about 967 cranes have been provided for the development of the inner harbour.
Mr Baalu said in the second phase, Rs 3610 crore would be allotted for the development, including deepening of the drafts, increase of terminals and handling capacities.
He said presently the current handling capacity in the port was about 15 million tonnes.
This will be increased to 20 million tonnes, he added.
