Sinha and Azad greets the people on the occasion of Shivratri

Jammu, Feb 25 (UNI) Governor Lt General (Retd) S K Sinha and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have extended greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri.

In a message, the governor said that Mahashivratri inspires people to strive towards the pursuit of truth, which leads to the ultimate consciousness epitomised by Lord Shiva. The festival, he said, lays stress on the values of piety, devotion, mutual love and harmony, which are cornerstones of the great Indian civilisation.

The Chief Minister, in his message, felicitated the people on Mahashivratri, saying that this auspicious day embeds in it a rich cultural heritage. While Kashmiri pandits and Muslims since ages are connected with Hairat (Shivratri) and exchange greetings, fruits and recipes on this day, Jammuites celebrate it in traditional Dogra festivity.

Mr Azad expressed hope that the traditions of brotherhood, love and amity exhibited by the people on this day through centuries would continue to the various sections of the society with same bonds of brotherhood. Mr Azad prayed that this auspicious day be harbinger of lasting peace and prosperity of the state.
