Satyam Computer sets up centre in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 24 (UNI) IT major Satyam Computer Services Limited today laid the foundation of its technology centre at the Salt Lake Electronic Complex here.

Kicking off the project Satyam's co-founder and CEO B Rama Raju told reporters a total of 2000 knowledge workers would be recruited in the project spread over 2.77 acre of land.

Satyam, operating in 53 countries, had planned to expand operation in the Kolkata centre in phases and increase the headcount to 10,000 knowledge workers in three years, Mr Raju said.

Satyam was scouting for around 40-45 acre of land for a big campus in the Kolkata centre, he said.

Initially software development work would be taken up in the centre followed by BPO work. Kolkata would be the sixth city of Satyam's operations in India.

Satyam currently employs 26,000 people and has operations in 53 countries. The company is expected to cross a billion dollar revenue earning this year as per the guidance given to the stock exchanges.
