Pink slip for Ganguly;green signal to Raina, Chawla, VRV, Sreesant
Vadodara, Feb 23 (UNI) Former skipper Sourav Ganguly was shunted out along with Gautam Gambhir Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar while promising leggie Piyush Chawla was rewarded with a place in the 15-member Indian squad for the first Test against England in Nagpur beginning on March one.
The selection committee under the chairmanship of Kiran More, which held a marathon three-hour meeting here today, picked up S Sreesanth, Vikram Rajvir Singh and allrounder Suresh Raina for the first time in the squad.
Talking to reproters after the meeting, More virtually closed the door on Ganguly's return, when he said, ''There is no looking back as far as Ganguly is concerned and we are reposing our faith in the youngsters as we want to build the team for the future.'' The Indian squad: Rahul Dravid (captain), Virender Sehwag (vice-captain), Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Wasim Jaffer, Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, S Sreesanth, R P Singh, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, VRV Singh, Piyush Chawla.
